Old-World Romance
at Middleton Place
Inspired by their Scottish castle engagement, a love of history, and a touch of fantasy, Kenley and Luke's wedding invitations brought together rich colors, romantic details, and beautiful textures for their Charleston celebration.
ROMANIC • MOODY • OLD WORLD
01 / Their Vision
Kenley and Luke got engaged at Neidpath Castle in Scotland, and that moment set their inspiration: moody, romantic, old world, a little bit fantasy. Their palette was just as rich, with moss, thyme, oxblood, deep brown, and antique gold. For two history lovers, Middleton Place in Charleston was the perfect setting.
02 / My interpretation
I started with color and texture. White or ivory felt too bright for a wedding this moody, so I chose a soft, misty tone for the main invitation.
Texture played an equally important role. Letterpress, handmade paper, velvet, and antique gold foil brought depth and warmth to the suite, while subtle references to their favorite movie and the castle where they became engaged made the design distinctly theirs.
03/ Our Design
The main invitation featured a delicate floral frame, drawn by hand and printed in letterpress around elegant calligraphy. On the reverse, a rich green velvet backing with their monogram pressed in antique gold foil added an unexpected detail.
The rehearsal dinner invitation echoed the shape of the main invitation with a custom die-cut silhouette, while the details card featured a hand-drawn border inspired by The Lord of the Rings, a subtle nod to the couple's love of fantasy.
For the reply card, we chose handmade oval paper with softly deckled edges and tiny flecks of dill and herbs embedded in the fibers. A moss-green tag, finished with their gold-foil monogram and tied with oxblood velvet ribbon, gathered the pieces together.
Perhaps the most personal detail was tucked inside the envelope: a commissioned watercolor portrait of Neidpath Castle, where their story took its next chapter.
Hand-addressed envelopes and carefully selected vintage postage completed the suite, carrying that same sense of romance all the way to their guests' mailboxes.
